The last event before the Lakeside World Darts Championship is upon us this weekend. The Finder Darts Masters sees the BDO’s finest talent battle it out over three days. Alongside 24 men will be 6 ladies and 6 youth players vying for their respective titles.

History
This will be the tournaments 17th running and has been known by a number of different names over the years, including, the Dutch Grand Masters (1995 & 1996), European Grand Masters (2000), Doeland Grand Masters (2001 – 2004), Leendesk Masters (2005), Zuiderduin Masters (2007 – 2014) and this year the Finder Darts Masters.
Staging of the tournament was a bit hit-and-miss in the early days, with no event held at all in 1997, 98 & 99 and also 2006. But since 2007 it has been a regular fixture in the BDO calendar.
Past Winners – Men

There have been eleven different winners of the Finder Darts Masters. The first ever winner was Raymond van Barneveld, 25 years ago in 1995. He was followed by BDO darting royalty, Martin Adams in 1996. Adams had to wait four years to defend his title (2000), which he duly did beating Steve Beaton 5-4 in the final.
In the next four years, van Barneveld won the title a further three times, beating Andy Fordham (2001), Mervyn King (2003) and Ted Hankey (2004). Barney’s run was interrupted by Australian Tony David in 2002 when he beat King 6-4.
King made the final for the third time in four years in 2005, this time returning triumphant with a 5-4 defeat of Adams. There was no event in 2006, so King was the holder for two years, before the trophy was wrestled away from him by Scotsman Gary Anderson in the first (and so far, only) final not to include an Englishman.
Anderson would go on to win the title again the following year (2008) when he defeated Scott Waites in the final, 5-4. Martin Adams made his fourth final appearance in 2009, but this time lost out to Darryl, before the trophy was lifted once again by a Scotsman in 2010 – this time Ross Montgomery, by beating Robbie Green 5-4.
The last four finals have all been all-English affairs, with Waites winning in his second final against Fitton (2011), Stephen Bunting beating Alan Norris 5-0 (2012), James Wilson beating Bunting 5-1 in 2013 and Jamie Hughes taking the title against Gary Robson 5-0 in last years final.
Past Winners – Ladies
The first Ladies version was held in 2008 – Lisa Ashton took the inaugural title with a 2-0 win over Trina Gulliver in the final. Wales’ Julie Gore took the title in 2009 by defeating Tricia Wright in the final. Trina got her hands on the trophy in 2010 when she defeated Francis Hoenselaar of Holland 2-1.
2011 saw another Dutch lady beaten in the final, this time Aileen de Graaf losing 2-1 to England’s Deta Hedman – this is currently the last time an English Lady has appeared in the final. Aileen would lose in the final once again in 2012, this time 2-1 to Anastasia Dobromyslova of Russia.
Aileen made her third consecutive appearance in 2013, finally picking up the top spot with a revenge 2-0 win over Dobromyslova. Last years final saw the Aileen/Anastasia battle continue for a third consecutive year, this time Dobromyslova edged the contest 2-1 and will defend her title this weekend. They are in opposite groups – could they make it four consecutive finals?
2015 – Format
The tournament is held at the Zuiderduin Hotel in Egmond aan Zee, Holland.
The 24 men are split into eight groups of three. Each man plays each of the other players in their group once – so two group matches each. The top player in each group progress to the straight-knock-out quarter-final and then obviously semis and Final.
The Ladies follow the same format, but only have two groups, so the two group winners progress directly to the Final. This is the same format for the Youth tournament.
